Michelle Olomojobi

{¥} Hi, how are you? Introduce yourself.
My name is Michelle Olomojobi and I am currently 22 years old.  I am great! A tad bit busy, but great none the less!

{¥} Have you always wanted to be a fashion designer?
No, it is still weird for me to be recognized as that.  I am actually still getting use to that title.

Business

{¥} How did you come up with the name, LLULO and the concept of the business? When was LLULO founded?
LLULO is apart of my middle name.  That’s actually why it means so much to me. LLULO is actually me! Do I have to give my middle name? lol. (NO not at all!)  LLULO was founded about a year ago.  I was unable to truly get into it because I was focused on completing school.  Now, I am able to focus and put a lot more time into it.

{¥} Why did you choose to use the Ankara fabric?
I chose to use this fabric because I wanted to find a way to modernize the fabric.  Ankara is usually worn for special events.  So, I created a way for Ankara to be worn on a everyday basis.

{¥} What inspires your designs? Are they hand-made or made by a manufacturer?
I am inspired by the world around me.  My family, my friends, and colors are some inspirations.  I just get things in my head or a friend will call me and insist I create something.  Everything is handmade.  Hopefully, a wonderful manufacturer comes soon and saves me! Lol. (Wow!)

{¥} What is a typical day like for you?
My days are usually jam packed.  Usually, all people see is a site and assume that there is a group of people behind everything.  But, it’s just me! I usually wake up around 8 and everyone in my house hears my sewing machine roaring.  I complete orders throughout the day.

{¥} What is one mistake you made in the beginning and how did you learn from it?
Thanks to God, I am doing quite well.  I have not made any huge mistakes.  I have great, influential people in my corner that usually lead me in the right direction.

{¥} What are the advantages and disadvantages of having your own company?
The biggest advantage is being able to see my dreams come to life.  I’ve always known I was going to own something.  I just was unsure as to what it would be.  The biggest disadvantage is my social life has not been seen for some time now.  I’m still looking for it.  (LOL!)

{¥} Where do you see your business in 5 years?
In five years, I see LLULO in major stores and on people of different cultures and ethnicities.

Fashion

{¥} What designers do you look up to?
I look up to Ituen Basi.  She is a Nigerian Designer.

{¥} Do you follow any current trends? What is your favorite?
Honestly, I wear whatever accentuates my body.  I have never really been into trends.

{¥} Describe your personal style?
My personal style just depends on how I feel for the day. (That's how I am.) Anything high waist is an automatic in my closet!

{¥} How do you feel fitness and fashion correlate? Do you think fitness fashion should be updated?
I think fitness is important in regards to fashion.  When you feel good, you look good.  Is that the correct saying? (or vice versa... that's a great descriptive phrase)  Just being healthy period should be fashionable in itself.  I do think fitness fashion should be updated. (Great cause I am brewing up some FAB ideas!) I don’t mind looking cute in my work out clothes.  That never happens though. Lol. (I'm getting there.)

Fitness

{¥} What are your thoughts on fitness?
Fitness is important.  It is especially important to me because at one point I was obese.  I lost about 35 pounds. (That is awesome! Congrats!) You have to stay healthy and fit.  The older you get, the more you realize how important it is to be fit.

{¥} What do you say to the body-conscious?
I say don’t be so hard on yourself.  Everyone is a little body conscious.

{¥} Do you think there’s a difference amongst cultures on the subject?
No, I think that everyone is body conscious.  No one is perfect.

{¥} What do you do to keep in shape? And how do you maintain your curves?
Well, my big brother is my personal trainer.  (That's cool. I wish. I have me, myself, and I. lol) He pushes me.  I do just about everything.  From a full on football players workout, (Wowzers! Say what?) to Zumba, to bike riding, I do it all! I have to give a little credit to my mom.  She’s where I got my curves from. ("She get it from her mama!" lol) But, I just try my best to eat well and drink TONS of water.

Butterfly
{¥} What is your advice to aspiring fashion designers and entrepreneurs out there?
You only have one life to live.  Live it doing something you love.  Seriously!  You can only make yourself happy.

{¥} Who are your motivators/ supporters? Is it important to be surrounded by supportive people?
My mom is my biggest supporter.  I am glad God gave me her.  Words cannot express the love I have for her.  She pushes me and she truly believes in my dreams.  My family gives me motivation.  My closest friends also give me motivation.  They were there when LLULO was just an idea and not a reality.  That is a great question. (THANKS!) It is IMPERATIVE to be surrounded my supportive people.  I am Nigerian and I am not pursuing a “typical” field that most Nigerian’s choose.  So, having a strong support system is something that I take seriously.  Without it, the journey may be a tad more difficult!

{¥} What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Mom: “Don’t give up.”
