School has started back for me!
Woohoo! (Sarcasm at its best!) But at least I will be done with grad school next year if I buckle
down and don't stray from my plan!
If you need help navigating what to
do fitness-wise as you go back to school, just ask me! I know how it is.
College life can mess up a diet, lifestyle change and exercise badly! Staying
up late, cramming while eating all the worst foods and snacks, trying to fit in
and the best and the worst thing of all the school /dorm "meal plan."
You have food at your beck and call 24/7. You can swipe as many times as you
want with your id card. It is buffet style. There are several cafeterias on
campus. Many of the restaurants are open late around you if you stay off
campus. QT near our campus was the place to be. Parties upon parties ANY day of
the week. All kinds of binge drinking happens --- trash can punch, fraternity
drink mixes, beers upon beers, vodka so on and so forth (and let's not forget
the drinking games!). There is just so much to distract you.
I want you to buckle down as you do
with your work! Have a plan and stick to it. I understand there is going to be
more time spent studying, but some of you will make time for friends who are
constantly around you or parties, so just try to make a winkling of time for
fitness. If you cannot then please just try to choose healthier snacks such as
fruits and veggies. Plan your meals! If this is hard, I know some schools have
healthier food choices on campus that you can choose.
Also I know there are plenty options
for you exercise-wise. You can walk or bike to class instead of riding the bus
or driving. Remember an older post: you can work out sitting in class. Suck in
your stomach and hold for various periods at a time! Also campuses have
intramural sports. I used to love that in school even though I was not into
fitness at the time. They have volleyball, basketball, football and all kinds
of things to choose from. Also you can take Pilates, dancing and other things
that make you move as elective classes! You can actually get credit for these
things and keep up with your fitness routine as well. There are probably even
organizations that are fitness related as well. Use the stairs instead of the
elevator. Also some schools have a nice on-campus gym. My school definitely has
a really nice one. Membership comes free by your simply being a student. The
University of North Texas has an inside track, swimming pool, and rock climbing
wall! It is so state-of-the-art! They even have group classes, personal
training and fitness evaluations as well. You need extra money and want to get
in shape, well how about becoming a group fitness class leader or personal
trainer yourself.
Hope you loved my list of ways to
stay healthy and fit at school!!! Good luck! My blog will still be here. It
will probably just be updated less, but I will definitely keep up with Twitter
and definitely Instagram, so add me!!! The usernames are in other posts!
