I went to my
beautiful cousin's wedding this weekend in Mississippi.
YAY CONGRATS TO HER! This is the first time I've traveled since I made the decision to change my eating habits. I thought it would be challenging and to some degree it was, but I did what I could do in the very small town my family is from. In Leland, the restaurants to choose from are Sonic and Subway... the rest are a little further out... When people cook, they cook southern [aka fatty, greasy (YUMMY! Did I just say that? Mouth waters...)] foods. I didn't necessarily create an all out plan of attack, although I had some kind of idea of what I would, could, could not and would not eat! Remember: If you do not plan, you plan to fail!
Breakdown of my weekend's eating habits:
Day 1 Friday the 11th, my mom, Cookie, my dog, and I packed up the car and set out for the 6.5-7 hour drive to Mississppi.
I PLANNED BUT NOT WELL ENOUGH!
Packed car with:
- ZipLoc bag of 2 green bags
- ZipLoc bag of protein shake powder
- ZipLoc bag of raw pecans and walnuts
- ZipLoc bag of shredded wheat
- ZipLoc bag of granola
- Blender bottle
- bottles of water
Although this was good inbetween stops which we had few of or even good until we made it to Mississippi, it made be absolutely starved by the time I made it to one of my cousin's houses, Angela!
This is the part I did not plan so well! Although I was starved, I still managed to maintain portion control when I finally did eat, but the bad part was that I had no clue what to eat. I chose to go to Wendy's and get a salad. Although it was a salad the fact that fried chicken strips were on top was not great. Well my cousin (she was a bridesmaid) had to get to the rehearsal, so I managed to get down the chicken on top and run out the door.
I didn't eat the croutons! Yay Me! I mingled with family and oohed and ahhed at the space where the wedding would be as my stomach started swinging at me inside. Later I was told that there would be rehearsal dinner and I got excited, well momentarily because then I wondered what the heck would I be eating? Luckily one of the options was a salad, but my only option for meat was fried fish and spaghetti and meat sauce. I had to work with what I was given. By this time I was beyond hungry. I prepared myself a bowl of slad with a sprinkle of cheese
:-/ some ham pieces and a little italian? dressing over the ranch, I place on a plate 1-2 pieces of the fish and then I placed a tast of the spaghetti on my plate. That night I had a glass of wine with the bride and bridesmaids.
I survived!
Day 2 Saturday the 12th, THE WEDDING DAY!
Morning: I wake up extremely hungry, and decide to get dressed to walk to a store. I finish showering and Angela makes it home from getting her hair done just in time. So we go to get me breakfast at none other than Sonic. I order just a sausage, egg, and cheese Toaster... It was the best I could think of at the time. THEN it was time for the wedding events just 2-3 hours later. It was so beautiful! Congrats Mrs. Marion & Mr. Roddell Flowers!
What I ate (during the time between the wedding and the reception)
:
- 4-5 cubes of cheese
- a few grapes
- 3 ritz cracks
- 2 meatballs
During the reception:
- chicken with some type of sauce
- white rice
- green beans
- salad
The meal was actually well-portioned. I ate a bit.
YES, I did not eat the roll! I endulged a bit with 1 beer and 2 small cups of alcohol. I danced it all away! I got a great tummy workout with all the laughter.
Traveling back home, Sunday the 13th
:
- Ate the breakfast one of my other cousins, Lakreisha, and I prepared for Angela for Mother's Day which was grits, sausage and pancakes.
- I ate a little grits, 1 red sausage link and one tiny slice out of the one pancake I had on my plate minus any syrup.
- In the car, I snacked on the same things I had ZipLoc'd that Friday.
- For lunch we stopped at Subway: (Asked for flatbread and they had none ANGER!) So, I went with wheat bread with some bread pulled from the middle, ham (eh?), and american cheese toasted with spinach leaves, a little salt and pepper, jalapeño and red wine vinegar six inch sandwich and a bag of apple slices. DELISH!
- When I got home FINALLY I ate a chicken lettuce wrap with a little bit of brown rice
I must say I did well, but I feel I did great because I didn't eat the.... CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE! :)
*My next post will be about what you can eat at restaurants if you are traveling! Look out for it!*
